The old Avon Court Motel (often just called Avon Court or Avon Motel) on historic Route 66 in Afton, Oklahoma is one of those roadside relics that visually captures the rise and fall of America’s classic motor-court era. Once a modest but welcoming stop for travelers heading east–west on the Mother Road, today it sits as a quiet, evocative ruin — a striking piece of Route 66 heritage. The Avon Court Motel was built in 1936 by John Foley, right on the western edge of Afton along the bustling Route 66, at a time when thousands of motorists were crossing the country by car and needed overnight lodging. Only three of the original seven cabins still stand, and even those are just skeletal shells with no roofs or interiors left.
Thanks for stopping
