The current Arcadia Grille is named after Canton’s original Arcadia Hotel, one of the city’s prominent hotels in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Arcadia Hotel opened in 1882 at the corner of Court Avenue and Market Avenue North, only a short distance from the present-day Arcadia Grille. It quickly became one of Canton’s finest hotels during an era when railroads brought thousands of travelers through the city. The hotel featured guest rooms, dining rooms, a popular saloon, and commercial storefronts on the first floor. Its central location, just steps from the courthouse and business district, made it a favorite for businessmen, politicians, and visitors. Although today’s Arcadia Grille is a favorite downtown restaurant, its name reaches back to one of Canton’s grandest hotels. The original Arcadia Hotel, opened in 1882, welcomed railroad travelers, businessmen, and visitors for decades from its prominent downtown location. While the hotel is long gone, the Arcadia name lives on just steps away, connecting modern downtown Canton with more than 140 years of local history.
