I stumbled upon this old building a few years ago and decided to go back and explore. It location is not in a great part of town and a not-so-friendly person was living in an old mobile home on the property. I explored the building after steering clear of any issues with the current resident/squatter.
The Building itself was built in 1920 by the Pennsylvania Railroad to serve as the Pennsylvania Railroad YMCA, built to serve railroad workers of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railway operated by the Pittsburgh Railroad Eastern Division located on the East side of Canton Ohio. The “Railway Y” was designed as a modern self-contained hub to serve railroad employees offering accommodations, recreation, and hot meals for the railroad crews. The Railroad Y closed in 1967. After its closure, it was repurposed as part of a junkyard and eventually vacated in 2012. The Car in the photograph was a late 1960 early 1970 Triumph GT6+, possibly left behind after the junkyard was on the property, the visual captures the haunting decline of a once-vital facility for the railroad in Canton Ohio, and its workers.
Thanks for stopping
