The Glancy Motor Hotel was a classic mid-century roadside motel located along historic Route 66 in Clinton, Oklahoma. Opened in 1950 by Chester and Gladys Glancy, it quickly became a popular stop for travelers during the height of Route 66’s popularity, offering modern accommodations and a welcoming place to rest along the long highway. Known for its distinctive neon sign and typical “motor hotel” layout—where guests could park directly outside their rooms—it reflected the booming car culture of the 1950s and 1960s. However, like many businesses along Route 66, the Glancy Motor Hotel declined after the construction of Interstate 40 diverted traffic away from the old route, and it eventually closed in the 1970s. The building remained for decades as a fading reminder of the highway’s golden era before being demolished in 2023, though its iconic sign is being preserved as part of Route 66 history.
Thanks for stopping
