Spirit Triumphant: The Louisiana Monument at Gettysburg
Nestled on Seminary Ridge along West Confederate Avenue, the Louisiana State Monument at Gettysburg quietly honors the sacrifice of thousands of Louisianans who fought in the battle of July 1–3, 1863. Sculpted by Donald DeLue and unveiled on June 11, 1971, the monument is a powerful composition of bronze and green granite. Its focal point is a grand female figure soaring above a fallen gunner — she holds a flaming cannonball aloft, while blowing a trumpet.
