Just off Historic Route 66 in downtown Atlanta, Illinois, is Chubby’s Bar & Grill, a classic small-town stop known for hearty food and hometown charm. The vibe is casual and no-frills—part dive bar, part community hangout—where you’ll find locals mixing with travelers passing through.
The menu leans into comfort food favorites: big burgers (the Chubby Burger is a must-try), wings, wraps, seafood baskets, and even the Illinois “horseshoe” plate of fries, meat, and cheese sauce. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the service has that friendly, small-town warmth.
We did not stop this trip but the reviews online were all very good, and I thought the mural was a great thing to capture wiith my camera. The Mural itself is a “Walldog Mural”. The “Walldogs” are a group of sign-painters / mural artists who came through Atlanta during a Route 66-oriented gathering (“Letter Rip on 66”) as part of efforts to preserve or recreate historic signage and murals in the town. The mural is more than decoration — it’s a connection to the building’s past. Chubby’s occupies a building that was earlier an outlet for Reisch Brewing Co. The mural restores part of that identity to the streetscape.
Thanks for stopping
