War Birds I

Last week I made a trip out to the M.A.P.S. air museum that is located on the outskirts of our local airport. The Wings of Freedom tour was in town for 3 days. The tour which is operated by the Collings foundation brings in three of the most famous WWII bomber and fighter aircraft to the area for 3 days. A B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator and the P-51 Mustang. I thought it would be fun to see, and hear these old gems up close. The P-51 Mustang was a special model with dual control sticks. You could go up in this baby for a 30-minute training session for a mere $2,200, $3,200 for a full hour. Thirty Minute rides on the B-17 or B-24 were a bit cheaper at $450. Tempting but just a bit too much at the time.

The P-51 has some great lines and colors, very photogenic. The B-17 took off for a flight while I was there so I got to see the thing fire up all it’s engines and take off to the skies, very cool! An awesome morning with some great War Birds.

Thanks for stopping!
