The Stanley Hotel, located in Estes Park near the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The Stanley became famous after Stephen King’s one night stay was enough to inspire his third major work and first hardcover bestseller The Shining, which remains a landmark masterpiece in a long and well-known list of novels. Jack Nicholson starred in the cult classic film version of the Shining in 1980.
