The Akon Rubber Bowl, home to the Akron Zips Football team for quite a few years. On November 13, 2008 they played their 324th and final football game. The Rubber Opened in 1940 and has hosted a lot of events in its lifetime. I did a search on Concerts there over the years to find some great ones, like in June of 1972 hosting Black Sabbath, Humble Pie, Edgar Winter and the Ground Hogs. I was 8 years old.
The part of the stadium pictured here is still standing, the concrete stands are actually built into the side of a huge hill and is supporting the road structure above the stadium seating. Unfortunately, the other 80% of the stadium has been razed since I photographed the stadium.
Thanks for stopping

12 Feb 2021Cool. I don’t believe I had ever heard of The Rubber Bowl. Led me to look up both the stadium and the Zips and learn a bit.
