The Jungle

The Ohio State Reformatory (OSR), also known as the Mansfield Reformatory, a historic prison located in Mansfield,  the East Cell Block stands six tiers high holding 600 cells that once had 1,200 inmates. The East Cell Block is the world’s highest free-standing steel cell block. The Cell block boasts 600, 7″ x 9″ cells that would have held two men and provided no privacy. In later years, it was referred to as “The Jungle” and held more violent prisoners. The prison remained open with prisoners until 1990 when it was closed by a court order for inhumane conditions.
