Portland Head Light II

Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth Maine, the oldest lighthouse in Maine built in 1791, hard to believe this is over 200 years old. This was my second trip to the lighthouse, this time with my wife, the first was last year with the NxNW crew. I was hoping for better weather this trip since the last visit was pretty rainy and misty, I did not come away with any decent shots I liked. This trip proved to be much better, although the seas were not as dramatic the day was beautiful and I was happy to get some decent shots of this Maine jewel. Being a nice day the crowds there were just immense, I mean people everywhere, no parking etc. etc. Getting anything up close was out of the question.

I wandered a bit (jumped a fence) and got a couple of good shots that I was pleased with, including this long exposure with a 10 stop filter. Unfortunately, this was a NO FLY zone for the drone, as were allot of areas along the coast due to the number of airports.

Thanks for stopping!

  1. These old lighthouses are some of the best subjects, my friend, and this one is wonderfully composed and captured!

  2. A classic! Beautifully composed and I like the effect of the long exposure.
