The Beauty of Boone Hall Plantation
Ah, the beautiful Low Country of the South. This shot is from my archives as winter has put me in a rut for sure the start of this year, none the less this is the Beautiful Boone Hall Plantation just outside of Charleston South Carolina. Unfortunately the day we visited it was cloudy and overcast and the light was sub-par, to say the least.
The most notable natural feature of the grounds is the grand “Avenue of Oaks” that was first planted in 1743 and completed by the Horlbeck brothers in 1843. On axis with the front facade of the house, the entrance to the grounds consists of 88 live oak trees and one magnolia, that are evenly spaced, and run 3/4 of a mile from the entrance of the plantation to a pair of brick gateposts.
I really wonder what someone planting trees back in 1743 would think if they saw the place today, the beauty they created that so many people photograph every day. I would love to get back there someday with some good light as this place is majestic. The tours and grounds are a great experience as well, very educational to learn about the Gullah culture and life in the low country during the period. Overall a great place to visit if you’re in the low country put this place on your list.
Thanks for Stopping
