Big Bertha – St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fort Wayne IN
On my way to Gary Indiana, I drove through Fort Wayne for a short stay to pick up my friend Robert Lussier who flew in from Boston to join us in our exploration of Gary. We had an afternoon to kill so we explored around the town a bit and found some old historical churches. Fort Wayne is actually known as the “City of Churches” with currently 360 churches in the city, quite crazy to think about. We were lucky enough to get a private tour of St. Pauls Lutheran Church after we stopped in and arranged it with the Church secretary Lilly. It was a beautiful church and I will post more from the inside later, Lilly was a great host.
This is a photograph of the huge organ in The church. The organ is affectionately nicknamed “Big Bertha”. She is a 1942 instrument built by the Austin Organ Company of Connecticut. The acoustics in this particular church was amazing, would have loved to hear this thing being played.
Thanks for stopping!
