The End

Another view inside the abandoned Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Pittsburgh. The Church is located in the old Larimer neighborhood in Pittsburgh, once a deteriorating area that was not really a good place to be around day or night. The neighborhood over the last two to three years has transformed quite a bit with new housing everywhere. Pittsburgh was one of four cities to receive a highly competitive Choice Neighborhoods grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2014, a huge win. As part of the grant, existing affordable apartments on the site are being replaced and additional market-rate apartments are being built. When complete, there will be a total of 334 units. It is hard to imagine how long these old structures will be standing.

Thanks for stopping!

The Nave

Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Pittsburgh PA sits silently in the quiet suburb of Larimer. Time has not been kind to Help of Christians, which could accommodate up to 1,000 worshippers in the nave and balcony in its heyday in the ’50s and ’60s. I believe this structure was left to rot away around 2007 or thereabouts and since has been vandalized with all its stained glass stolen.

We visited this beauty last weekend on a photography trip and it did not disappoint. This shot was from the balcony overlooking the Nave.

Thanks for Stopping!
