Marshall Point Light is a charming and historic lighthouse standing at the entrance of Port Clyde Harbor in Maine. Built in 1858, this picturesque lighthouse consists of a white cylindrical tower attached to a small keeper’s house, perched on a rocky outcrop. A wooden walkway extends from the shore to the tower, creating an iconic and photogenic scene, especially at sunrise or sunset.
The lighthouse, only about 24 feet tall, may be modest in stature, but its presence is striking against the rugged coastline and vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. The light and foghorn guide mariners safely through the often misty and unpredictable waters.
Marshall Point Light gained additional fame when it appeared in Forrest Gump, as the spot where Tom Hanks’ character ended his cross-country run on the East Coast.
