Mildred is a very small rural community in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, in northeastern Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains. It sits along PA Route 487, roughly between Dushore and Laporte. Today it has the feel of a quiet mountain settlement rather than a conventional incorporated town. It was designated as a census-designated place in 2023; an estimate for 2025 puts the population at only about 117 people. If you’re interested in old Pennsylvania coal towns, abandoned/vanished communities, or what a tiny Appalachian town looks like after its industry disappears, Mildred is actually a fascinating place to explore.
