At 94 feet, Ganoga Falls is the tallest and most impressive of the waterfalls at Ricketts Glen State Park, and it is often considered the centerpiece of the park’s famous Falls Trail. Located along Kitchen Creek in Ganoga Glen, the falls plunges down a series of rocky ledges surrounded by towering trees, moss-covered boulders, and the steep walls of the gorge. The name Ganoga is believed to be derived from an Iroquois word meaning “water on the mountain,” an appropriate name for a waterfall tucked deep within this rugged Pennsylvania landscape. Colonel Robert Bruce Ricketts, who developed the trails and promoted the area as a tourist destination in the late 1800s, gave many of the waterfalls names inspired by Native American words and tribal names. Standing at the base of Ganoga Falls, it is easy to understand why this particular waterfall became the centerpiece of the park—it combines height, power, and scenery in a way that makes it one of the most memorable waterfalls in Pennsylvania.
